As many of you know, the City of Surprise held an “Emergency Preparedness Summit” this last January that was attended by about 175 people.  Even at the event, people were asking if we would hold another one in 2009.  So, this next year we are hoping to make it a more general event, calling it a “Disability/Human Services Summit”.  The event will be held on January 10th from 8:00-12 noon at Radiant Church in Surprise.

This year, instead of the sole focus being emergency preparedness, that topic will be just one of the 4-5 break-out sessions.  Other break-out sessions we hope to provide include one related to “Assistive Technology”, “Serving Customers with Disabilities”, “Caring for the Caregiver” and “Developmental Disabilities Panel Discussion”.  Our hope is to get back the crowd that came last year and may be interested in other topics, as well as local businesses and more people who just want information.  We are hoping for 250-300 people!

Last year, we had about 25 exhibitor booths in the main lobby.  This year, we will expand that to include two of the break-out rooms for Assistive Technology and Local Resources.  These will be extensions of the Exhibitor Hall and include tables with assistive technology displayed around the room or general resource agency booths.  Between sessions, participants can walk through these rooms to gather more information, try out technology, etc. 

This also means more exhibitors can participate in this great event.  So, I have emailed you to see if your agency/organization is interested in participating.  There is no cost to participate though, if you have anything that can be given as a door prize, that is helpful. Merchandise is not allowed to be sold, just so you know.  Our focus, obviously, is on agencies that provide any kind of service to individuals with disabilities.  Some agencies provide services to the public, in general and may be specifically placed in the “Local Resources” room.  These would be agencies that provide food boxes, utility companies, etc. 

If you are interested in participating in this event, even if you have already notified me, please complete this online registration form as soon as possible.  Even though we are expanding the amount of space for exhibitors this still may be a first come-first served basis.
